Ford, VW officially ink long-term platform, electric car partnership

DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford and Volkswagen will supply each a small city van, a larger cargo van, a compact pickup truck and an electric vehicle as their joint global alliance announced in 2003. The two firms made the first announcement on Tuesday night saying that the deal was sealed.

The companies informed about certain aspects of what the business is going to bring in Wednesday where the town van was developed by Volkswagen and the company manufactured Fords ½ tons cargo van on order for both companies. The corporations also said that VW could produce a small pickup built on Ford’s Ranger platform while a Volkswagen electric car would be produced by Ford primarily on VW’s modular designs intended for Europe. Additionally, the firms have also proven commitment toward mutually funding development of autonomous cars as Volkswagen invests in Argo AI, an American company primarily owned by Ford based in Pittsburgh.

The automobile manufacturers unveiled the alliance during the last week in July among other merger deals and collaborations with the intention to reduce the expense of developing modern vehicles and technologies together. As for the vans the deal below, it could be delivered not earlier than the next year. The companies announced in a press release that VW will start selling the pickup truck in 2022, while an electric car model will become available in 2023.
